Andy Reid has yet again made being an Eagles fan tough to bear.

If you’re an experienced fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, then your fandom has been marred by enduring circumstances. You’ve had to endure watching the hated Dallas Cowboys, Redskins and Giants all win Super Bowls, while your team hasn’t won any. You’ve had to endure players like Freddy Mitchell and Torrence Small making your favorite team’s roster while other teams could sport players like Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith and Larry Fitzgerald. You’ve even had to endure watching the best players in team history like Reggie White and Chris Carter go elsewhere and achieve even greater success than they had while they were members of he Eagles. Yet, you have remained faithful to your allegiance the silver and green.

Indeed, it has been frustrating.

Thus, when the current head coach of the team that you have been so loyal to uses the New England Patriots’ failure to win the Super Bowl last season, to make his point that the Eagles don’t need a number one wide-receiver in a pass-heavy offense, being a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles can be downright maddening. In a recent interview with “Comcast Sportsnet’s” Neil Hartman, head coach Reid had this to say about his wide-receivers:

"If I had a problem with them, I would bring somebody else in. that would be the reality of it. That’s just not the case. I like what I’ve got. "This is the thing. I'm very good with the wide receivers. I watched New England last season. They spent a lot of money on wide receivers. They went out and got rid of their wide receivers and they weren’t able to capture the crown. So, some of that wide receiver thing, that's not a reality. We’ve got guys here that we can win a championship with."

Andy, you’re kidding, right?

It’s one thing to protect your players by simply saying that you’re happy with what they bring to the table. It’s another, to take a swipe at a team that went 18-0, set about a dozen offensive records and made it to the Super Bowl.

Reid’s comments laugh in the face of simple common sense. Especially considering that the team that Andy Reid coaches, finished a dismal 8-8 and last in their division in 2007. Andy Reid telling the Patriots’ front office how to formulate a strategy for winning, is like watching a snail chastise a cheetah for a lack of proper running technique.

Surely coach Reid remembers just how explosive the Patriots were on offense, doesn’t he? After all, they did actually defeat the Eagles with that offense, didn’t they?

Additionally, Reid and the Eagles’ front office offering a contract to New England wide-receiver Randy Moss during the 2008 off-season, shows his lack of satisfaction in a receiving corps that is average at best. In fact, the Eagles’ leading wide-receiver, Kevin Curtis finished the 2007 season with 1,110 receiving yards and six touchdowns. These stats are viewed as a good season for a wide-receiver in the NFL, right? Not if you consider the fact that Curtis had 227 of those yards and three of his touchdowns in one game, a week two victory against the Detroit Lions. Even Reid can see the faults on his own team, regardless of what he says about his team, or other teams for that matter.

Let’s be real here…

Andy Reid’s decision to make his wide-receiver situation appear positive by comparing his Philadelphia Eagles to the New England Patriots was confusing at its best and idiotic at its worse.

Philadelphia Eagles fans can expect that Andy Reid will say very little at the press conferences that actually matter.

Philadelphia Eagles fans should also expect to endure Andy Reid defending the players that he has on his roster. It is what any coach would do in the same situation, no matter how good or bad the players actually are. Besides, anyone who has followed football for more than five minutes can see that Reggie Brown is really only “the question,” not “the answer.”

But what Eagles fans cannot and should not expect is for the head coach of their favorite football team to appear as a smug and arrogant coach who’s invented winning, merely because of his Super Bowl appearance in 2004.

When the head coach of the football team that Philadelphia Eagles fans have offered their undying support to becomes so blinded by his own marginal success, that his arrogance leads to him attempting to compare his organization to a team that has won three Super Bowls, while he hasn’t won any, it’s not only frustrating, it’s the clearest example of what Eagles fans have been forced to endure.

Keep your heads up Eagles fans, it’s bound to go your way one of these days. Who knows, maybe Andy Reid will only focus on his team.

I think Andy just used a bad example. Look at the Detroit Lions, and the Arizona Cardinals. They have great wide receivers, and they always stink. Football is won and lost in the trenches. You don't need Randy Moss to win a Super Bowl. You just need a solid hard working guy like Troy Brown, David Givens, Deon Branch, and David Patten. The Patriots won 3 Super Bowls with those guys.
The Eagles may not have great WRs, but they have some decent guys. Kevin Curtis had over 1,000 yards and 6 TDs. Reggie Brown has shown flashes pf being pretty good. He just needs to continue to work at it. DeSean Jackson could be a great addition. He is blazing fast, and could develop into a big play down field threat for the Eagles. I think this group will be just fine.
I am more worried about the left guard and center bouncing back from a poor 2007, and the production from the left defensive end spot.

Well, you can tell where Andy's head is at. Up his ass. I've been a eagles fan since I was in elementary school and actually watch the Eagles lose to the Oakland Raiders in the Super bowl. Not only does the Eagles fan get disappointed by pampas coaches but players as well and not only by the Eagles but by other Philadelphia sports teams as well.
When are these teams of the City of Philadelphia going to step to the plate, stop talking trash and bring a championship to this great city of Philadelphia. The fans of this city are so frustrated with the cheap spending and crappy scouting of athletes it's ridi [idiot]us. Andy Reid is just a joke.
